What is Prolapse? What are surgical and non surgical options for Pelvic Organ Prolapse?
Dr. Sonya Ephraim, a urogynecologist, joins Dr. Kelly Casperson on her "you are not broken" podcast to discuss pelvic organ prolapse. They talk about the unmet need for female pelvic health, the decision to specialize in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery, and the impact of prolapse on quality of life.
They define pelvic organ prolapse as the displacement of pelvic organs from their normal position and discuss the need for rebranding and destigmatizing the condition.
They also explore the risk factors for prolapse, including childbirth, constipation, obesity, and smoking. The conversation covers the importance of fiber intake, the role of hormones in prolapse, and the use o...

Urolift UL2 vs UL400 why you should get the new device

Urolift has an updated device known as the UL2. It is now a cartridge based device that decreases medical waste. There are other benefits as well such as increased suture tension which makes the device open the prostatic channel more than with the old device. It is not available to all urologists as of yet and you should ask your urologist if they are using the new system.

I know I have a Great for bladder prolapse issue.. however I am not having any urinary problems. I have no leakage. I am able to defecate without any issues, but the bulge is big and it’s hanging through my vagina but after listening to you, I am so relieved that I don’t have to have surgery if I don’t want surgery, thank you so much for this amazing video. I have sent it to my email. I have sent it to my messengers and I have sent it to my messages. I really really really appreciate you. Thank you so much.

I know this video is 4 years old but the information you’ve provided was absolutely essential to me. You’ve helped me not be so freaked out about what’s going on with me. I’m 53, had a hysterectomy at 42 where they left my tubes and ovaries because I had a pulmonary embolism when my youngest daughter was born in 2004. They didn’t want to put me into early menopause at 42 since they felt HRT was not an option for me. Now, I have a solid 5cm mass in the center/left side of my pelvis near my ovaries that was found incidentally during an ER and hospital stay due to a horrible UTI/kidney infection, sepsis, and kidney abscess. One radiologist thinks the mass may actually be a residual fibroid that is attached to my vaginal cuff area or maybe a broad ligament fibroid/mass. I’m scheduled for surgery to remove the mass in a couple weeks. I’ve been experiencing tailbone pain for about 5 months that I keep getting told is just aging. I’ve had no injuries or an accident to explain the pain. This week, I noticed a lump at the entrance of my vagina on the back/posterior. It’s worse later in the day or if I’ve been on my feet a long time. I’m curious if the solid mass near my ovary could be contributing to the lump/rectocele or if this is completely a separate issue. They sent me to a gyno oncologist for review and surgery on the solid mass, as a precautionary measure. I’m trying to figure out if I should let my surgeon know about the rectocele issue, before she takes out the mass or let it go and see if the solid mass being removed helps fix the issue. It wasn’t something I wasn’t even aware of during my initial consultation and physical exam with her. She likely didn’t see it during the exam because I was on my back. I don’t want extra surgery if I don’t need it, but I also don’t want two surgeries if I can avoid it.

My 2010 bladder sling caused a hole in my colon causing fistulas between my vagina & (my bladder & colon) allowing feces to come from my vagina & my bladder June 2022. I had emergency surgery and a stoma was created. In March 2023 mucus began coming from my vagina - then feces again , so I had surgery to revise the stoma and cut as much of the colon stump as possible. I am still fighting mucus coming from my vagina - it’s like sitting in a bowl of tapioca pudding. The last several weeks I’ve had urine coming from my vagina also. The colon doctor said the fistulas can’t be fixed because the mesh has landed on top of the fistulas (they can’t be seen by a cat scan) and it’s too dangerous. I am having bleeding from my vagina because of the irritation from the mucus & urine. Is there any way the fistulas can be plugged or something so the mucus comes from my rectum??

This video I watched of Dr. Carlson(4 yrs.old) very good but she speaks far too fast because the technical words one just cannot get. I have a prlapse I think is 3-4 grade but speaking on a video about such personal healthh issues ahould be spoken much slower to get it all.

10 years ago when I started seeing my then boyfriend I got regular UTI’s because of sex. It was so tough to deal with. What I learned was prevention is better than cure. If you can find a routine and diet than can help prevent UTI’s you can avoid antibiotics. For me going to pee after sex is vital. An I also wash myself down with water to flush away any bugs. I try to take D mannose before an after. I sometimes take it throughout the day too as precaution. Less caffeine, sugar and alcohol if you have had a recent infection. Vitamin C an probiotics daily. I’ve gotten my second UTI this year, again related to sex. I have to restart the program I made for myself 10 years ago. Hopefully il be back with good results in no time.

I came across your video just after looking up what prolapse really is and looking for treatment. I've had to wear pads for about 25 years now. Sometimes small pads but while im sick with a cough n sneezing it's the big pads and minimum of liquids for sure. So I just got off phone with a prolapse surgery suggesting full uterine removal. Of which responded with, let me research more about this matter before committing. And Dr was way to eager for me to just get it done. So with that being said.. What do I look for in a Prolapse professional surgeon? A second opinoin for sure.

I had the first, "temporary" installation done a few weeks ago. I demanded its removal after only two days. Among other problems, this device caused rolling Charley horses in my left thigh to the knee, with total numbness and painful "buzzing" from the knee to the heel. Also, I had strong PINCHING of my perineum, regardless of whether I was standing, sitting, walking or lying down. And walking up or down stairs was impossible. BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN CONSIDERING THE POSSIBILITIES OF THIS DEVICE AND RELATED PROCEDURES. I'll be talking to an attorney tomorrow morning.
